A few months after the first Flat Panel Display System upgrade had been rolled out to 757 customers, 767 pilots finally get their chance to try the modern screens in a new package released today by the FlightFactor crew.

The panels included in the update are from IS&S, and are retrofitted in place of factory-LCD displays and numerous steam gauges. There are four new panels total, two for each the captain and first officer.

A changelog for the update to the 767 v1.3.1 is as follows:

  • Added FPDS Avionics (available as an extension)
  • Added alt alert zone option
  • Added saving/restoring windows positions and active context (pop-up or pop-out, etc)
  • Fixed some brake related lamps logic
  • Fixed possible glitches in TERR/WXR images after consequent mode changing
  • Fixed look-ahead markers depiction in TERR
  • Fixed WXR strange patterned output in some cases
  • Fixed an issue with right VHF mic transmitter not working
  • Fixed the APU spool time
  • Fixed fd/cmd fma indication for land2/land3 modes
  • Fixed right cdu pop-up clickzon
  • Fixed Icelandair livery in the 767_Europe_3 pay-ware livery package
  • Fixed Hawaiian livery in the 767_Oceania pay-ware livery package
  • Fire test correction
  • Default VHF MIC buttons changed
  • Changed the brake hydraulic pressure logic
  • Removed PA from cargo
  • Vor auto/man is automatically set to auto when hsi mode returns to map/plan
  • Some fixes for VOR MAN/AUTO logic

Developer Denis Maslov explained the contents of the FPDS system in an interview with Threshold earlier this year:

"It's a whole new integrated EFIS system! Four LCD displays with integrated symbol generators, three DCUs (Data Concentrator Unit) with integrations to other airplane systems which contain some internal logic, and two DCPs (Display Control Panel) which are connected to the left and right displays - to control range, baro setting, map modes etc. Also, there is a new DCP Altn button for source switching, to select alternate DCP control on each side. Finally, a new standby instrument ISFD (Integrated Standby Flight Display).

"Of course, the new displays can be popped up and out, including the ISFD. EICASes cannot yet, but we have plans to add this feature to EICASes in the future."

The highly anticipated release followed teasing from both the X-Plane.org and FlightFactor, who released the first images of the FPDS package onboard the 767 last week. You can learn more about that here.

As with the 757 package, the FPDS upgrade for the 767 costs $20.00 and is available as an add-on to the base aircraft. This works interchangeably with their Extended pack, meaning you can have either FPDS, the Extended pack (both options cost the same amount) or both together for a larger sum.

You can purchase the Flat Panel Display System for $20.00 from here. Although it lists at a higher price, using the discount code included in your original 767 order's receipt will bring it down to $20.00. As previously mentioned, you must own the 767 base package before buying this add-on.

Similar to the 757, a video explaining upgrade and purchase options is available to watch:

The 757 was also updated to version 2.3.12:

  • Added rwy rising symbol to fpds
  • Added fpds display test pattern
  • Added saving/restoring windows positions and active context (pop-up or pop-out, etc)
