Flightbeam Exits X-Plane Development
Flightbeam has become the latest developer to quit X-Plane development, citing Microsoft Flight Simulator as a reason for the decision.
The news comes after a user asked Flightbeam whether they will be porting their FSFO HD (San Francisco International Airport) to X-Plane 11.
In response, Mir stated: "I'm going to be quite honest here. Last year I considered bringing a couple of my products over to XP11.. but with the FS2020 looming this next year I can tell you that there will absolutely be no chance of KSFO arriving in XP11 (or any other of our products for that matter), especially considering there is already a freeware KSFO on XP11 available."
The developer's only X-Plane product is that of Portland International (KPDX), made in partnership with iBlueYonder.
Flightbeam follows in the steps of other developers who have decided to quit X-Plane in recent months.
In August, Military Visualizations announced they would no longer develop for X-Plane for the foreseeable future, likely a result of the ATR debacle.
Their DHC-3T was updated about a month ago however, and two days later, Precision Manuals Development Group (PMDG) was the next developer to abandon the platform for five years.
The attention the giant placed on Prepar3D V4 and Microsoft Flight Simulator was the driving factor in their decision.
Eight days after PMDG's decision, Airworthy Designs - who only made products for X-Plane - also saw the potential in Microsoft Flight Simulator and decided to stop development for X-Plane.
However, the scenery developer also cited training as a real-world pilot in a Q400 as a major factor.
Flightbeam's departure means that a total of four developers have formally stopped developing for X-Plane 11 in the last 12 months, and it is likely that figure will rise as time goes on.
