LatinVFR Releases Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (KNKX) for Microsoft Flight Simulator
Earlier this week, scenery developer LatinVFR has released its newest product - Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (KNKX) for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Like many of the team’s previous releases, the airfield serves as a realistic rendition of its real world counterpart, bringing realistic building models, PBR textures, and an accurate layout that reflects the airfield’s latest developments.
The developers make use of the simulator’s engine to create a faithful rendition that includes a realistic night environment, “hand made and detailed PBR ground markings/textures”, taxiway/runway signages that mirror the real world, and detailed building models. In addition, the airport will be populated with custom modelled static aircrafts that match the you can expect to see in the real life counterpart, including F-35, F-18s, MV-22 Osprey, and CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters. For a full list of features, please refer to the product’s store page.
The real airport is named Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (KNKX), located north of San Diego, California. During its prime, the airfield was nicknamed “Fightertown USA”. Home to the “3rd Marine Aircraft Wing”, It plays a major role in pop culture as the former base for the legendary TOPGUN program before it was moved to Nevada in 1996. KNKX “is also the iconic airfield [where] the original 1986 Top Gun movie” is based.
Currently, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar can be purchased on the developer’s webstore for $8.99. For information on other sceneries/products by LatinVFR, check out another Threshold article.
