Laminar Research Scales Back In-Person Presence at FSExpo
On Twitter, Laminar Research has clarified its plans on attending the upcoming Flight Sim Expo event in San Diego. In a four-part series of tweets, the team has announced that they would not be attending the event in full capacity and that they’ll limit their presence at the expo due to the ongoing concerns surrounding the transmission of Covid-19. The team would instead make their presence primarily online.
At the event, attendees wouldn’t be able to meet the entire Laminar Research team, as only two of the team members would be attending in-person at the venue, additionally the team has decided against hosting a booth at the event in an attempt to reduce the risk of virus transmission from face-to-face interaction. This is indirectly confirmed prior to these tweets, from FSExpo’s publication of the floorplan on September 13th:
Further amendments to the original plan includes turning the Keynote event on Saturday afternoon into a pre-recorded session, in similar fashion to Apple's keynote livestreams. The session will be conducted by the development team to unveil the successor of X-Plane 11. For the landing competition which was planned to be done completely in person, the Final Round of the landing competition will only be conducted in person, and the Qualifying Round will be held virtually, further instructions will be provided later this week. The only part that seems to remain unchanged is their attendance at the Captain's Corner presentation on Friday which would continue as originally planned in-person.
That concludes their series of tweets, an exciting event to look forward to regardless! Thanks to user "Ryan_D1994" for the scoop on our Discord. Threshold will maintain a virtual presence to cover news of the next generation X-Plane among other news surrounding FSExpo. See you there!
