Special: Statement from a new Freeware Developer on the approach
Scenery Design; it is an exciting learning curve in the computer age of flight sim, even for young buck like myself. At 24yrs old, I made the switch to X Plane, even though I was a user since v9. I deleted every dust ball and file that was left form my beloved Prepared3D and FSX. For years I was always in fascination of how developers made their sceneries pop, being a good customer to ORBX, FlightBeam Studios, FlyTampa, FSDreamTeam and so-on. I used to do promotional videos on YouTube to promote sceneries because I knew I couldn’t make any, I did try, but failed many times. I realized I wasn't good at scenery design in the Microsoft or Lockheed world along with making promos, so then I just gave up. I then ended up attending Pennsylvania State University for Meteorology which left me no time to do anything in terms of scenery or video work. Now I work a full-time job doing weather related stuff (I promise I'm never wrong!)
When I dipped my toes into X Plane 11 and realized what the new generation of flight sim is capable of I turned back into scenery design, just for fun. I opened up a botte of wine, WED, Overlay Editor, My "Real World Photos" and Google Earth and started modifying one default airport at a time, and so far, I have 3 projects on the table, completed and ready for download on the .org! Trenton Mercer, Northeast Philadelphia & Princeton Airport(s) with Princeton just being released the last week in February.
My first project was KTTN, probably the most neglected airport in New Jersey, USA in all the Flight Sim franchises. It just never received the "TLC" that other GA Airports had across the United States. I added 3D grass, 3D objects, 3D people, Accurate Parking and busy FBO parking spots, I additionally redid taxiways, runways, lighting, parking, hangars and more to match real world specs. Including deer, all around the airport. With every new scenery I've develop, I learned more and more neat tricks and features. My 39N release is a huge overhaul compared to my other two airports. Featuring cracks, dirt, water, custom trees, custom hangars and fencing and a boat load more, literally (Yes, there's a few boats at the airport.. Somehow!)
I will continue to make all of my sceneries for free, with the biggest freeware community in any simulation platform, I have to keep that statistics alive. Soon I'll be adding a donate button to all my sceneries for anyone who would like to contribute a few dollars toward my development, but I'm not asking for you anything. My next project will be Robbinsville, NJ, USA – A big VOR transition from KJFK for you tube liner lovers [RBV]. It's already in very early stages and should take about 1-2 weeks to complete.
If you have any questions or requests, don’t hesitate to ask me on the X Plane forums. My Display Name is; "XCaptain" Give me a like and make sure to check out my sceneries and leave nice reviews, if you have any suggestions do leave it in the comments or write some constructive feedback on my download pages!
Sincerely, Alexandru Bruschini
