Released: TerraMAXX by MaxxXP
Announced a few days ago, TerraMaxx is now released, bringing a much needed/requested feature to X-Planers: Seasons. As expressed previously from Laminar, seasons is left out in the development pipeline, enabling 3rd party developers to develop their own solutions to seasons.
The product has been in development for several years, working closely with Sundog Software and X-Aviation again like their previous two products (SkyMaxx Pro and Maxx-FX). One of the main features besides seasons is brand new high resolution textures for the four main seaons, in addition MAXX-XP will be providing some documentation for scenery developers creating airports to take advantage of TerraMAXX's seasons integration.
TerraMaxx works by monitoring a variety of factors as you fly to create a plausible season around that information. The plugin allows you to manually set the seasons, or automatically change seasons. Textures will dynamically change as you fly across different regions to suit the conditions of that time of the year.
As with most products on X-Aviation, there is no Linux compatibility. Credits to MAXX-XP for being the first to bring full fledged seasons simulation to X-Plane!
Highlighted Features
• Automatic swapping of X-Plane’s default scenery with seasonal representations of summer, autumn, mild winter, and deep winter based on your simulated location, date, and temperature
• Replacement tree textures with 4X the resolution of default and seasonal variations
• Optional post-processing effects to give autumn and winter scenes season- appropriate hues
• If you indicated that your GPU has more than 5GB of VRAM when installing, high-resolution normal maps for default scenery will be installed, to give the appearance of more depth to the terrain. You can easily switch between the normal map option by re-opening the installer.
