VATSIM Further Previews Velocity
After originally announcing velocity back in March of 2021, the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network (VATSIM) has provided a new video via Instagram, showcasing the formation flying capabilities with Velocity.
If one’s unaware, Velocity focuses on bringing improved latency to the network. This means that aircraft will appear in real-time, rather than how they currently stutter while using the network. Furthermore, aircraft on VATSIM are currently updated at a rate of 0.2HZ (5s). With Velocity, the hertz has been increased to 5.0HZ (0.2s).
Although Velocity will bring impressive improvements to the network, certain clients are being discontinued. These include SquawkBox, SquawkBox747, SquawkBox for Fly!, XConnect, FSINN, ASRC, and SPARC. It should be noted that existing users of the various clients listed above will be forced to move to the newer clients available, such as xPilot, vPilot, and any of the other approved clients for the network.
For further information, the announcement video is available via their YouTube channel. As well, one can view the Threshold article which was made upon the announcement of Velocity.
Lastly, one can sign up for the Velocity Alpha to get a glimpse into the future of the network.
