X-Codr Releases Yellowstone Scenery for MSFS
X-Codr today has briefly announced that its West Yellowstone Airport and Yellowstone National Park is now released for Microsoft Flight Simulator, which is available on both XBox and PC through the in-game marketplace. The scenery will be the developer’s first product for the simulator and marks his official foray into the MSFS scene.
Announced in August, the scenery was actually completed a few weeks afterwards, but it was oddly made available starting today, two months after the scenery’s completion. A brief update message on Discord in September indicated that the team running the in-sim marketplace was still in the process of validating the scenery submission.
The scenery takes the best of the X-Plane rendition and is reauthored to take advantage of MSFS’s rendering capabilities. Apart from the detailed replica of the airport, the scenery offers scenic views and a wide coverage area featuring landmarks within Yellowstone National Park. Most notably, the scenery contains custom handmade 3d models of many of the distinctive geothermal features in the national park including the Mammoth Hot Springs, and several distinctive Geysers; Old Faithful, Castle and Giant Geyser amongst many other geological features. All of this is built upon a high resolution, colour corrected USGS NAIP satellite imagery overlay with a resolution of 0.6 meters per pixel, “dramatically enhances the appearance of popular geothermal features”
At the end of the short announcement, the developer has also let slip that he is currently working on another project, which will soon be revealed.
