X-Codr Releases Grand Canyon West Scenery
An addition to arguably one of the most exciting regions to soar above, X-Codr has introduced Grand Canyon West which is now available on the X-Plane.org Store. From late night scenics through Sincity and the neon Vegas strip, to exploring extraterrestrial airspaces and mysterious airbases; X-Codr has released a product that could give Nevada fans the opportunity to further broaden their adventures into the state of Arizona.
Contributing coverage for one of the seven natural wonders of the world, Grand Canyon West offers customers around 40% Ortho4xp mesh coverage, using imagery from NAIP (National Agriculture Imagery Program) to provide an almost shadowless image across this expansive region. The scenery features local landmarks such as Grand Canyon West airport, historic western towns, the old tramway and the all important, vertigo-inducing, Grand Canyon Sidewalk: a glass sidewalk spanning 60 feet over the valley.
Here is their full provided feature list:
- All buildings feature ultra high resolution textures.
- All buildings feature advanced PBR normal maps for realistic reflections and bump mapping.
- All buildings are highly detailed, down to even door handles.
- Most buildings feature "lite" interiors to give windows more depth.
- Large scale realistic ground textures with high frequency tiled normal maps for detail.
- All models optimized for maximum performance.
- Detailed rendition of the famous Grand Canyon Skywalk.
- Detailed rendition of Guano Point and the old tramway
- Detailed rendition of the Cabins at Grand Canyon West.
- 30m mesh surrounding the airport covering roughly 40% of the Grand Canyon (+36-114/+35-114)
- ZL16 USGS NAIP Orthoimagery is used for both ortho tiles.
- Nearly all ugly shadows removed from orthoimagery for a clean realistic view of the canyon.
- Alpilotx’s UHD Mesh V4 provides all other overlay elements (used with his permission).
In addition to the above, X-Codr has uniquely expanded the visuals to incorporate their own immersive functions for this scenery such as wet ground textures and functioning ground equipment, the latter which is powered by the default ground servicves mechanism to serve your aircraft upon request. It is certainly very interesting to see X-Codr has taken this independent approach. It is also worth highlighting that the developers, using aerial imagery, have painstakingly placed vegetation in locations where vegetation has sprouted. This is a barren land, vegetation is sparse, but nevertheless still present. It's this type of keen eye for detail that we like to see in the community.
With a price of $14.99, it’s an accessible ask for a product that promises lots of explorative trips. If you are interested, head on over to X-Plane.org here for more information.
