Another Monday means another edition of No Money Mondays! We’re back now in full swing showcasing the community’s best freeware addons, and this week, we’re featuring the amazing work of superspud and his rendition of Vágar Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Vágar Airport is located on the island of Vágar, just outside of the town of Sørvágur, 18 miles west of the capital city of Tórshavn. The airport was originally built by the British Royal Air Force during their occupation of the Faroe Islands in World War II. The first aircraft flew into Vágar in autumn of 1942. After the war, the airport fell into disuse, when it was revived by two local residents in 1963, and the airport was helped by Icelandair by beginning flights to Bergen, Copenhagen, and Glasgow using DC-3’s. Vágar has seen many operators since then, notable examples being SAS, Linjeflyg, and Maersk Air. The airport is also the home base of Faroese flag carrier, Atlantic Airways, which serves most of the passenger destinations around Europe, as well as various helicopter services around the Faroe Islands. In 2011, the runway was extended to 1,250m (4,100ft) to accommodate larger aircraft, and a new terminal was built in 2014. Today, the airport serves 23 destinations, with destinations as far as New York being served by Atlantic Airways.

The in-sim rendition boasts many features, including:

  • Custom ground and taxi markings, accurate to real airport
  • Custom terminal building with interior, including both air and landside
  • Custom hangars
  • Accurate DEM tiling
  • Accurate runway slope and characteristics
  • Accurate night lighting
  • Much more!

You can pick up this amazing airport on flightsim.to! You can also watch the trailer for the airport here.
