Juneau Airport started out in 1935, being owned by Alaska’s largest airline at the time, Pacific Alaska Airways. Starting in 1942, it was taken over by the U.S. Army Air Force and served as a vital transport link between new bases being constructed in the Aleutian Islands, and bases in the mainland U.S.. During that time, the runway was also paved and a large control tower was built. One of the first major airlines to serve the airport was Pan-Am, starting out with a daily service to Seattle via Ketchikan. Pan-Am was also the first airline to land a jet at the airport, landing a Boeing 707 in February of 1962  The first terminal was built in 1948, and has gone under many renovations and reconstruction since, with the most recent being in 2009. The runway was also extended multiple times in the 1960’s and 70’s.

Today, the airport sees over 650,000 passengers per year and serves 21 different destinations with five airlines. Alaska Airlines has the largest presence in Juneau, serving several destinations within Alaska, as well as flights to major hubs like Anchorage, and Seattle. Juneau also has cargo flights, with most being to Anchorage.

The simulator rendition of Juneau Airport boasts a variety of features, including:

  • Custom modeled terminal
  • Accurate ground markings
  • Custom taxiway paths, accurate to the real airport
