For this week’s No Money Monday, our focus goes down under as we look at the amazing freeware of Napier Airport in New Zealand by NZA Simulations.
Hawke’s Bay Airport, more commonly known as Napier Airport, is located on the eastern side of New Zealand’s North Island. Opened in 1966, the airport was built on land that appeared after the 1931 Hawke’s Bay Earthquake, and as such, it lies two feet above sea level. In 2011, Runway 16/34 was extended to 5741 feet in an effort to accommodate A320 jet traffic from Air New Zealand. In 2021, a new passenger terminal was opened to cope with higher passenger volumes.
The airport mainly serves passenger traffic, with Air New Zealand being the largest carrier to serve the airport. Air New Zealand offers multiple flights a day from Napier to larger cities in New Zealand such as Christchurch, Auckland, and Wellington using ATR 72 and Dash 8 300 aircraft.
